The FNB Wines2Whales is arguably one of South Africa’s most beautiful and most popular three day mountain bike stage races. Riders need to cover a scenic, but tough, 220km over these three days from Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset-West, Western Cape, to Hermanus on the coast.
The FNB Wines2Whales stage race is divided into 3 groups, i.e. Adventure, Ride and Race. Each group consists of 600 teams of two riders each, which then totals up to 3600 riders. An average distance of 70-80km per day needs to be covered, and a total elevation of 4286m gained over these three days. Besides being spoiled by endless single track routes and challenging obstacles, the riders are treated after each stage to a great variety of fantastic meals, sports massages and “chill” lounges.
Magalies was well represented in the Ride group that took place from 2 to 4 November, by CEO Hans du Preez, and his three sons, Herman, Hannes and Wihan. Hans and Herman as a team completed the race in a total of 15:45:44, while Hannes and Wihan completed it in 18:49:10. Well done gentlemen, those are long hours in the saddle, you did Magalies proud!
