Magalies staying fit with ‘Om Die Dam’ Marathon Race

by Belinda Erasmus

Fitness and a healthy living was once again shown to also be fun, as MAGALIES was represented at the extremely popular, annual ‘Om Die Dam – 2017’ marathon race that was held on 18 March 2017, at Hartbeespoort Dam, North West Province, South Africa. Magalies runners Belinda Erasmus, Joanne Bruwer and Ansja Strydom completed the 10km distance, while Erica du Plessis completed the 21km distance for her first time, even if it meant crossing the line on her torn socks and shoes in her hands…!

The Old Mutual Om Die Dam Ultra Marathon (ODD) is the largest in-land ultra-marathon held in South Africa, which includes a 50km ultra-marathon, a 21km half-marathon, a 10km route and a 5km fun run. Due to the scenic surroundings of the Hartbeespoort dam and that this marathon is used as an excellent practice run for the upcoming Comrades marathon a large number of over 10 000 participants is attracted, every year. The ODD is considered to be one of the top national races with the ultra-marathon as the main event. It is a race for anyone ranging from the ‘super fit’ to the ‘not so fit’, but always very positive and passionate individuals.

Well done ladies for representing Magalies, and for setting a great example to live life healthy and fit, to the full!
