The role of fruit juice in a balanced diet – Volume 3 – (Article 3 of 5)

A low-fiber diet is for people who need to rest their digestive system (gastrointestinal tract). A low-fiber/ diet limits the amount of food waste that has to move through the large intestine.
Here’s how fruit juice can support digestive health:
- Low- fiber/low residue diet helps to resolve symptoms of conditions such as: Diarrhea, Abdominal cramping, Bowel obstruction, Slow Transit constipation, Gastroparesis and other gastrointestinal distress. You have narrowing of the bowel. This may be due to a tumor or an inflammatory disease, such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
- Fruit juice without pulp can be part of a balanced diet and may help people who cannot eat fruits and vegetables due to the high amount of fiber they contain.
- Fruit juice can therefore play an important role in the digestive health and feeling full, it is important to note that you should not cut back on fiber unless a health care professional recommends.
- Drinking fruit juice without fiber, like orange juice, can provide a quick source of vitamins and minerals when on a restrictive diet like the Low- fiber/low residue diet.
- There are 2 categories of fibre – soluble and insoluble. Both are beneficial and we need to include them in our daily diets. Most plant foods contain a mixture of both.
