Two teams of Magalies were privileged to complete their third FNB Wines2Whales mountain bike stage races recently, that took place the first week of November 2016. Riders covered a spectacular, but tough and technical, 200km over these three days, from the beautiful Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset-West (Western Cape), to Hermanus on the coast. It is referred to by many mountain biking enthusiasts as one of South Africa’s most scenic, enjoyable and well-organised three day mountain bike stage races.
The race is divided into 3 groups, the Adventure, Ride and Race. This year each group consisted of more or less 700 teams of two riders each, which then totaled up to ±4200 riders. An average distance of 60-70km per day was covered, and a total elevation of 4020m was gained over these three days. Riders are treated to an endless single track paradise but with some challenging obstacles, bridges, river-crossings and a few other surprises that never offers a dull moment…! The riders are also spoiled after each stage with a great variety of fantastic meals from Food Lovers Market, optional sport massages and “chill” lounges.
Both teams performed well in the Adventure group that took place from 4 to 6 November. Magalies CEO Hans du Preez and son Herman completed the race in a total time of 15:03:31, while other two sons, Hannes and Wihan, completed it safely in a time of 17:40:04. Many thanks to Polyoak for their generous sponsorship. Well done gents, you made us proud once again!
